8Count Backstage

Terms of service

Last updated: 2026-06-02

This is a working draft. It describes our intended terms. Final legal review by your jurisdiction's counsel is recommended before go-live.

Accepting these terms

By creating an account or otherwise using 8Count Backstage (the “Service”), you agree to these terms. If you're using the Service on behalf of a dance studio, you represent that you're authorized to bind that studio.

Who can use it

Your account

Sign-in is passwordless — a one-time magic link sent to your email, or Google. Keep access to your email account secure, since it controls access to the Service. One account represents one person and may carry several roles at once (for example, a studio admin who is also a dance parent). You can review your identity, the studios and families you belong to, edit your display name, and request a copy or deletion of your data from your account settings.

Acceptable use

Don't misuse the Service: no unlawful activity, no attempts to access another studio's data, no disrupting or probing the platform's security, and no uploading content you don't have the right to share. Studios are responsible for obtaining the consents they need from the families they invite.

Payments

Tuition, costume, and ticket payments are processed through each studio's own connected Stripe account; the studio is the merchant of record for those charges, and 8Count takes a platform fee. Studios separately pay 8Count a subscription for use of the Service. Payment terms, refunds, and credits for tuition are set by the studio.

Some studios price online payments to include their costs of accepting them — card processing, the platform fee, and/or the studio's subscription to the Service. Card processing applies only to card payments, so the amount due may be slightly higher when paying by card than by bank transfer (ACH). This is a difference in price by payment method, not an added surcharge; the amount shown at checkout is the full total you will be charged, with no separate fee line added afterward. Choose bank transfer, where offered, to pay the lower amount.

Your data

Our handling of personal information is described in our privacy policy and, for text messages, our SMS policy.

Closing your account

You can request deletion of your account from your account settings. Because we keep an append-only billing ledger and an audit log, and because a studio relies on the operational records (including dancers) it manages, we handle deletion by anonymizing your identity and contact details and severing your sign-in, while retaining financial and studio records as required for tax, accounting, and dispute resolution. A studio may also request deletion of specific family records.

Disclaimers & liability

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, 8Count Backstage is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees paid for the Service in the prior twelve months.

Changes

We may update these terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above; continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
